A live workshop from one of the world's highest-paid freelance copywriters — for freelancers who are done with being undervalued in today's economy…

Your skills are worth more than you're being paid.
You're just in the wrong market.
The direct response industry pays freelancers dramatically more — because it can measure exactly what their work is worth.
And over two LIVE workshops April 16-17, I'll show you how this “alien industry” works… where the juiciest gig opportunities are… and how to make the pivot quickly – using the skills you already have
Dear Skilled Freelancer,
When was the last time a client paid you what you’re actually worth…
Enough to fully value your experience, your effort, and the quality of your ideas?
If your answer to that question is “Not bloody recently” – you’re not alone.
After all, it’s a bloodbath out there at the moment…

These reactions come as no surprise to me.
Because on Upwork, these are the kinds of rates on offer for freelancers right now:

Horrific stuff.
Far too many freelancers are being offered insulting rates for their work.
And if you’re unhappy with the rates you’ve been offered lately…and the gigs are trickling in slower and slower…
Or if you’re simply losing faith in your industry at the moment… and you’re starting to think your future may lie elsewhere…
I’m here to show you this definitely doesn't have to be YOUR story.
Not if you understand what's really going on right now in the freelance gig economy.
Because many freelancers haven’t fully realised what’s causing these bottom-of-the-barrel rates.
In fact, most people would probably point to the big, bad elephant in the room...
And blame AI for the dire state of the gig economy.

[Behold: The big, bad elephant in the room. Generated by AI, natch.]
And while I'd be an idiot to dismiss the damaging effect AI is having on most freelancers’ businesses…
It’s definitely NOT the biggest barrier to their success.
In fact, if you look much more closely…
You’ll realize it NEVER has been.
Because the real reason so many talented freelancers are underpaid has almost nothing to do with technology…
And much more to do with WHERE they apply their skills.
My proof?
One where the best clients are happy to see freelancers as an investment.
Where unlike agencies, small local businesses, and even larger corporate firms…
They don't guess whether you made them money (and then judge your work harshly, based on their hunch…)
They know if you made them money. Usually right down to the penny.
And this is great news for freelancers…
Because it means if your work beefs up the business’s bottom line…
You’re guaranteed to be highly valued and highly paid for your work.
This industry is, of course, the world of direct response advertising.
And as someone who’s spent 6 years inside this world now…
Writing marketing campaigns that have generated over $25 million in tracked sales and counting…
Working with household names in the field – such as Agora, V Shred, and Porter Stansberry amongst others…
And being invited to speak on the same stage as direct response industry legends such as Mark Ford and Steve Harrison…

I’ve got the inside track on this industry.
That’s why I’ve been urging freelancers to ditch the “brand” world…
To trade in their content marketing career…
And come join me in this lucrative freelancer’s playground.
And the signs are promising!
Because judging by some of the messages I receive in my emails and DMs, people are champing at the bit to get involved in this industry…

This is the reason I’m extending this special invitation to you today…
It’s a unique chance for me to give you a full primer on how the direct response industry works from the inside…
So that you can skip the painful, “figure it out as you go” phase that chews up most newcomers and spits them out – before they ever land a client…
And so that you never again feel like you're on the outside looking in... guessing at how this industry works – while everyone else seems to already know the rules.
I’ll give you the full details on this live 2-day workshop – and how you can join me for it – in just a moment.
But first – just in case you have doubts about whether you can make the switch – it’s important to this:
You don’t need to learn a brand-new skillset from scratch.
Chances are, you already have most of the skills to succeed…
And until now, you’ve just been deploying them in the wrong opportunity vehicle.
You just need to TRANSFER what you’re doing right now to a NEW market…
And pick up a few extra bits of insider knowledge along the way – which this workshop will provide.
I call this kind of career switch “Skills Arbitrage”...
It’s where your skills in one environment could be worth little, but you find an environment where they’re worth a small fortune instead…
And you simply transfer them over.
To illustrate my point…
You may have heard the famous story about a world-class violinist, Joshua Bell – who played a $3.5 million Stradivarius in a subway station during rush hour.
Barely anyone stopped to listen to him…

And he made only $32.17 in tips.
So I hope you understand what I’m getting at here with “Skills Arbitrage.”
If you're playing YOUR Stradivarius in a subway station…
Don't be surprised when the world walks past.
That’s why in this live workshop, I'm going to show you how to pick up your existing expertise…
And put it down in an industry that wants you more, values you more, and pays you more.
Because when YOU can prove that your work matters…
And when YOU can demonstrate – beyond all reasonable doubt – that YOU were integral in helping to ramp up a business’s revenue…
It drastically ramps up YOUR pricing power.
And I can attest to this effect…
Because it put me in a position where I command $25,000+ royalty for client engagements.
In fact, a project I’m working on right now paid me $30,000 plus royalties…

But seeing as we’re talking numbers now…
Let’s slow down here and hit the “Pause” button for a moment.
Because although you can definitely leverage your skills so you hit the ground running…
There are some limits to this “Skills Arbitrage” effect.
But it’ll be impossible for you walk into a direct response business – and instantly command industry-leading rates from Day #1.
The two advertising worlds are different…
And there are some nuances in direct response you’ll need to pick up, for sure.
If you think you’re going to cake-walk it in a few weeks, all because of some prior experience in a different vertical…
I urge you to stop reading this letter now – because you’re going to be sorely disappointed.
The simple truth is, there’s a learning curve everyone has to go through in this industry. C’est la vie.
But if you’re still reading this, I’m going to assume you’re a smart, reasonable, resourceful person.
So I’m sure you don’t expect miracles to happen overnight.
And if you’re willing to roll up your sleeves and dig in…
You’re 100% in the right place. I’m the ideal person to guide you through this.
Because it wasn’t so long ago I was a middle-manager at a student dorm building…
A regular bloke with no marketing background, who stumbled into copywriting by accident.
In fact, I even wrote FREE website copy for local businesses – just to build my portfolio.
But over the next couple of years, I got more serious about the craft…
And by 2020, my highest earning projects were cold email sequences for SaaS businesses.
This was my first real taste of “direct response”...
But I wasn’t remotely satisfied by it.
The problem was, I was constantly reading about great copywriters from the 90s and early 2000s…
Legends such as Clayton Makepeace and Gary Bencivenga, who wrote longform direct mail promotions – and earned millions of dollars in royalties.
The more I researched the direct response industry, the more attractive it sounded – at least, compared to what I was doing.
I soon learned the world’s most successful freelancers – enjoying the most celebrated careers – weren’t writing blog posts or “About Me” website pages.
They weren't cutting together 30-second Instagram reels for brands that couldn't even tell them if the last one worked.
And they weren't churning out “Top 10 Tips” articles for content mills that treated them like replaceable cogs.
Instead, they were sitting in private strategy meetings with 8-figure business owners — being asked for their opinion on the next big campaign, not just handed a brief and told to get on with it.
And they were being credited — by name, behind the scenes — as the person whose work turned a struggling offer into a company's biggest revenue driver of the year.
To put it more bluntly…
Everyone in direct response was making way more money.
Everyone was working on more fulfilling, higher-stakes projects.
And everything in this world seemed to matter…
And the freelancer was part of something that was bigger and more consequential.
I wanted a career like this, too...
So I dove in, full-blooded.
And I committed myself to CRACK this lucrative market – or go broke trying.
Now, some of the language in direct response was a bit alien to me at first, but that didn’t daunt me.
After all, I’m a copywriter… a researcher…
So digging deep and learning new material was my trade.
I quickly educated myself about the metrics that get tracked in this business…
The systems that get put in place...
And how direct response marketing businesses in the U.S. actually operate.
Training at the financial publishing giant, Agora…
Followed by a spell as real estate investor Grant Cardone’s senior funnel copywriter.
I soaked up everything I could learn from the people around me – experienced publishers, CMOs and senior copywriters… top media buyers and highly skilled video editors and project managers….
And as soon as I understood the game they were playing…
And figured out where I could fit in their world, and deliver what they needed…
The money soon followed.
Fast.
And my income has grown every single year – without exception – since making the pivot.
It’s been enough to retire my wife from the hair salon she'd grown to hate running…
And it moved us out of South Manchester in the UK, and into a house in the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside, with an inspiring “writer’s view” from the garden…

But the thing I value most about making the switch isn't the money or the location freedom.
It's the breathing room I get by becoming more expensive.
It’s reclaiming the time and space to think properly – and fully explore my best ideas.
And it’s getting to do work that's genuinely interesting and intellectually stimulating to me…
Work that challenges my abilities. That feels important. That matters.
And the world of direct response made all of this possible for me.
I believe it can be possible for you, too…
And I want to help you make it happen.
But the first step to making the switch is understanding that direct response isn't just “a different type of marketing.”
In most cases, the world they’re used to is typically about building awareness… creating strong emotional associations with the product… and staying “top of mind” for the target audience.
And while this kind of work can be highly creative and fun…
One of its weaknesses is how nebulous the work can be.
Its results are notoriously hard to measure.
And that’s sadly why when times get tough, its marketing practitioners are often seen as the most expendable.
But as its name suggests — direct response advertising is about driving immediate, measurable action.
And because everything is tracked — clicks, conversions, cost per acquisition, lifetime value, return on ad spend — businesses know exactly what's working and what isn't.
So it's not so much a “different type of marketing”…
It’s more a different type of business model.
And this has major benefits…
Because when you can prove — with receipts — that the funnel you worked on generated $50,000 in sales this month...
Or that your email sequence converted 8% of cold leads into buyers...
Well, suddenly you're not an “overhead expense” to the business anymore.
An asset.
Someone the business needs.
That's why these businesses are willing to pay so well.
And there are plenty of them out there.
For example, look at this Upwork job ad posted recently for a copywriter role:

This gig is in the fashion and beauty niche…
And pays $3k to an intermediate writer.
(Notice, also, how the client wanted to AVOID working with content writers and bloggers).
Now, how many copywriters outside of direct response are able to command $3,000 for a gig, at the intermediate level?
Not many.
And bear in mind – this is Upwork!
A platform that’s hardly known for hosting clients that pay freelancers the most generous rates.
But being able to find this gig for an intermediate direct response copywriter, – after a brief scroll on the platform – doesn't surprise me.
Because the modern marketing ecosystem has multiplied the gig opportunities enormously…
Creating much more work for people across just about every creative marketing discipline.
Copywriters, video editors, graphic designers, media buyers, marketing strategists, project managers…
All of them can get in on the action…
By taking advantage of the formats that have erupted across the new marketing channels over the last 30 years…
Video sales letters...
Advertorials and native ads…
Email sequences…
Webinar funnels...
Short-form video ads on Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube…
Landing pages...
Checkout flows and upsell strategies…
There’s no shortage of work that business owners need freelance help with.
And bear in mind, that although we’re now in the digital era…
All the old media still exists too, of course.
TV. Radio. Print.
It really is a freelancer’s playground - if you’re determined to take advantage of what’s on offer.
The potential here is easy to see.
But I realize that despite all this, you may be wondering if AI is stealing jobs in direct response, too.
And I’d be lying to you if I said it wasn’t. I think we all know it’s disrupted every corner of the advertising industry.
But is it taking out freelancers in the way I’ve seen writers and designers get decimated in other industries?
Definitely not.
The opportunities in direct response are still abundant.
And where AI is playing an increasingly large role – for example, in ad creative strategist gigs – the technology is just supporting the freelancer.
Not replacing them whole cloth.
Everyone is carving out a slice of a very big — and ever-growing — pie.
AI Be Damned.
So how do you get in on this?
Well, first you need to learn the business model. So you can parachute into this world like a pro.
And the concepts that underpin direct response businesses are not complicated or difficult to learn.
I mean, come on… I learned them.
And for context…
Before I was a copywriter… and before I was even that university dorm middle manager… I was a minimum-wage security guard!
So something tells me that if I can pick this up — you can, too.
And as soon as this model clicks into place in your brain…
You'll wonder why you didn't make this shift years ago.
Because it’s been here – right under your nose – all along.
So, if you’re curious about getting involved in direct response marketing…
And you want to stop being commoditised and disrespected… and start earning your true worth…
It’s time I lifted the veil on my new, live workshop for ambitious freelancers…
Thursday April 16- Friday April 17:

This is a LIVE, 2-day workshop where I'm going to walk you through exactly how direct response businesses operate — from the inside out — so you can take the skills you already have…
And use them to confidently pivot them into more lucrative markets.
Thursday April 16th and Friday April 17th at 12pm EDT/5pm BST, I’ll be going live to give you the complete insider's map to an industry most people can see the rewards of — but almost nobody outside of it truly understands.
It’ll be like being shown the chessboard before you're asked to play.
Right now, most newcomers stare at individual pieces — without understanding the game those pieces are part of.
Once you see the full board, you'll understand why certain moves are worth a fortune… and why others barely matter at all.
Here's how the two days will unfold:
Day #1: Thursday April 16
12pm EDT/5pm BST
To make yourself expensive, you first need to understand how to make other people money.
That's the game. And that's always been the game.
Direct response businesses run on a model where value is quantified and measured — oftentimes daily — with tracked metrics.
Before you can tap into this value and get paid handsomely — you need to know how these businesses create value in the first place.
What do they consider valuable?
What do they measure?
What do they reward?
On Day 1, I'm going to use my years of experience working under the hood with 7-, 8-, and even 9-figure direct marketing businesses to take you inside the belly of the beast…
And show you exactly how these business models work — so you know how to plug yourself in and create what these businesses actually want.
On Day 1 of the live workshop, you'll discover:
The number that tells you — before you've written a single word or designed a single page — exactly how much a business can afford to spend on acquiring a customer. (Know it, and you instantly understand what they'll pay you. Don't know it, and you're guessing. Most freelancers are guessing.)
Why if you think direct response caters to just “wealth, health and relationships”… you're thinking far too shallow. (I'll hand you a list of SEVENTY-ONE markets that direct response businesses tap into — so you can see just how wide open this industry really is.)
A single ratio — buried inside every business you'll ever pitch — that instantly tells you whether they can afford to pay you $15,000… or $150. (It has nothing to do with their revenue, their ad spend, or the size of their team. Hint: it's not their profit margin either.)
Why the smartest companies in the world deliberately lose money on the first sale — and why that's actually the best news a freelancer could ever hear. (This one concept alone will change every conversation you ever have about fees.)
Why the most successful companies in direct response don't sell “products.” They sell something else entirely (When you understand what it is, you'll spot opportunities that every other freelancer in the room will miss.)
How the most profitable businesses online are structured in a way that most freelancers have never seen (And why understanding this structure is the difference between getting hired once at a mediocre rate and building an ongoing relationship worth five or six figures a year.)
The 3-word phrase that describes the true function of every direct response marketing strategy ever built. (Know these three words… understand them… tattoo them on your forehead if you must… and you'll see every business, every funnel, and every client conversation with a clarity that most freelancers never achieve.)
This session will last 60-75 minutes…
Plus we’ll have time for Q&A at the end of the workshop, too…
Which is your chance to pick my brains directly on the material we’ve just covered.
This session alone will fundamentally change how you think about the value of what you do.
But it’s only HALF of the value you’ll get from your time with me.
Because at this point, we move on to…
Day #2 - Friday April 17
12pm EDT/5pm BST
This is where we flip the script.
Because Day 2 is all about YOU.
How you get what YOU want from these working relationships.
How you find these businesses, get their attention, and structure deals that reflect the real value of what you bring to the table.
Because understanding the model is only half the battle.
The other half is knowing how to capture your share of the value you create.
So on Day 2 of this live workshop experience, you'll discover:
The “reverse engineering” technique that lets you decode any direct response business's entire sales strategy — from the outside looking in — before you've even spoken to them. (This alone makes you more prepared than 99% of freelancers who pitch these companies.)
The “Russian doll” marketing assets direct response businesses use – where you can slot in easily (once you start recognizing the patterns, you’ll be able to look at businesses’ sales processes and identify value value creation opportunities – like a “Rain Man” card-sharp eyeing up the blackjack table).
Where to find direct response businesses that are actively looking for freelance help (The platforms, the communities, the outreach methods, and the signals that tell you exactly who needs what you've got.)
How much direct response businesses are actually willing to pay for the assets you'd be creating. (I'll give you real numbers across different project types — so you know exactly what to charge and never lowball yourself again.)
Why the most valuable freelancers in direct response don't think of themselves as “service providers.” They think of themselves as something far more powerful — and far harder to replace. (I'll show you what that is, and how to start operating that way immediately.)
Why the most entrepreneurial freelancers in direct response don't just work for flat fees. (They structure deals involving revenue share, royalties, and joint ventures — creating income streams that keep paying long after the project is finished. I'll show you how these deals work and how to position yourself to land them.)
BONUS: The “Bulletproof AI” business growth strategy. (I won't give it all away here. But I will say this: it involves going where AI hasn't reached yet — and partnering with people who'll value your humanity as much as your skills).
A little more on that last one…
Because if you're a freelancer who's worried about AI replacing you — or worse, if it's already sucking the joy out of your work — I'm going to propose something that might surprise you...
A path that sidesteps the AI threat entirely… lets you do deeply creative, fulfilling work… and puts you in a position where nobody's ever going to ask you to compete with a chatbot.
Day 2 of this workshop will also run for about 60-75 minutes…
Then we’ll have more time for Q&A too – so you can hit me with any questions you have, live on the session.
Look, the whole purpose of Make Yourself Expensive is to get you thinking differently…
To think more like an operator and less like a vendor.
And by the end of Day 2, you'll know where the opportunities are…
What kind of work is in high demand…
And how to start positioning yourself to go after it.
You'll leave this workshop seeing the freelance landscape completely differently.
Not just “I need better clients”...
But understanding exactly WHY certain businesses pay more, WHERE those businesses are, and HOW to make yourself highly valuable to them.
And that’s not all…
Because if you grab your seat for Make Yourself Expensive now…
You'll unlock immediate access to a new training I've put together exclusively for workshop attendees.

This is a deep-dive session covering the origins and evolution of direct response marketing…
So you’ll fully understand how DR businesses worked back in Claude Hopkins’s day, 100+ years ago…
And how these businesses have adapted and changed today…
So you can be a real student of the game who’s fully up-to-date on industry trends.
This training is yours 100% FREE as soon as you register for the workshop today…
And it’ll drop in your inbox within minutes of securing your seat.
Speaking of which… by now, you may be wondering how much it costs to get yours.
And you might be pleased to know I’m making this highly accessible for freelancers…
Because I know it can help a lot of people…
And I would’ve treasured something like this when I was starting out.
In fact, at times, I felt like I was writing this sales letter to myself from 6 years ago!
And as far as making profits go (because this is a business, after all…)
I hope to win enough trust from you in this workshop so that you’ll do business with me again in the future.
That’s why I’m pricing tickets for Make Yourself Expensive at just $99.
I’m convinced this deal puts us firmly in “No-brainer” territory.
Because if this workshop helps you land even one direct response client…
Or it helps you pivot into a market that pays 3-5x what you're making now…
It'll probably be the best $99 you’ve spent on any type of education and training, in your freelance career.
That’s why if you think Make Yourself Expensive could give your freelance career a breath of fresh air…
Now’s the perfect time to grab your seat:
Now, you may notice this offer doesn't come with a moneyback guarantee.
And I can confirm all sales are final — so make sure you really want to join this, if you're going to commit.
I won't be issuing refunds to anyone who can't make it... or to anyone who has a sudden change of heart...
But if you can't join us live, I'll send you the recordings after the event - so you definitely won't miss out.
And if you're a nervous Nelly who likes a moneyback guarantee to be in place "in case it isn't any good..."
Come on. Give me a break. You've seen my credentials.
If you don't trust me to deliver a great training on direct response marketing by now, I doubt there's much I can do to convince you.
Although maybe these world-class direct response operators might reassure you...
Most freelancers find freedom the moment they realise they can get paid on results, not hours. Especially when those results can be life-changing. Cain sits at the forefront of what's possible in that world, but what makes him rare is he's exceptional at teaching it, not just doing it.

In the first version, nothing changes.
You're still competing for the same projects on the same platforms.
Still watching rates slide.
Still feeling that knot in your stomach every time a client ghosts you.
Still reading articles about AI eating your lunch and wondering how much longer you can keep doing this before you throw in the towel.
In the second version, you invested just $49 and two days in April with me – learning how the most lucrative corner of marketing for freelancers actually works.
You understand the economics behind the business model.
You speak the lingo.
You know where the opportunities are and how to go after them.
And maybe you've already landed your first direct response client…
And discovered that a single project in this world pays more than three months of the content work you used to do.
You're not scrambling anymore… or competing on price.
Instead, you're operating in a market that can measure what you're worth — and pays accordingly.
I know which version I'd choose.
In fact, I already did choose it — six years ago. And I haven't looked back since.
Why not join me?
So if you've been reading this and feeling that pull — the sense that this could be the turning point you've been waiting for — don't sit on it.

I'll see you on April 16th.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What are the exact dates and times?
The live sessions are on Thursday April 16th and Friday April 17th at 12pm EDT/5pm BST. Expect each session to run approximately 60–90 minutes including Q&A.
Q: Will there be recordings?
Yes. If you can't make it live, you'll get the full recordings. But I'd strongly encourage you to attend in real time if you can — the live Q&A is where a lot of the best insights come out, and you can't ask a recording a question.
Q: Is there a guarantee with this offer?
No, there’s no moneyback guarantee. This will suppress my sales, but I’m good with that. Moneyback guarantees are great for big businesses selling high-volume products to mass markets. For operators such as me, selling offers such as this – they’re not worth the extra boost in sales. They just attract tire-kickers and cheapskates. I don’t want their “business” – it’s not worth the extra cognitive load.
Q: I'm a complete beginner to direct response. Will I be able to follow along?
That's exactly who this is for. I built this workshop specifically for people who have marketable skills but have never set foot inside the DR world. I'll explain everything from the ground up — the same way I wish someone had explained it to me when I was starting out.
Q: I'm already working in direct response. Is this too basic for me?
Possibly. If you already understand front-end and back-end economics, CPA, LTV, and how DR businesses evaluate campaigns financially — you probably know most of what I'll be covering. This workshop is designed for people who are new to the model, not for seasoned operators. That said, if you've been in DR for a while but never had someone lay out the full economic picture in one place, you might still find it valuable.
Q: I'm a complete beginner to freelancing. Is this suitable for me?
No. You can be new to direct response, but not new to freelancing in general. You need to already have some experience in your chosen field to benefit from this training.
Q: I'm not based in the U.S. Does this still apply to me?
Absolutely. I'm British. I live up in t’hills of North Yorkshire. And I work almost exclusively with U.S.-based direct response companies. Geography is irrelevant in this industry — the model works the same whether you're in London, Lagos, or Los Angeles. In fact, one of the things I'll cover is how the US direct response market creates opportunities for freelancers all over the world.
Q: Will I be getting advice on how to get clients?
We’ll cover some of this in Day 2. And the advice I give you will be an excellent starting point. But I won’t be giving away detailed client acquisition strategies, templates, plug-and-play systems etc. Transparently, if I was going to do that, I’d be charging a much higher fee. So please don’t attend if this is the only type of thing you’re looking for – because I’ll only end up disappointing you.
Q: What platform is the workshop on?
It'll be hosted on Zoom or a similar livestream platform. Nothing complicated. You'll get a link and joining instructions as soon as you register. If you can open a web browser, you can attend.
